Position: Campus Safety Intern
Department: Campus Safety
Location: Robert Saltonstall Gymnasium (RSG) and across campus
Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Day shift: 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, five days per week
FLSA: Non-exempt
Salary Range: $17 - $19/hour; based on experience

Summary of Position:
The Campus Safety Department is seeking a summer intern to support a community-centered approach to campus safety and security and emergency preparedness.
This role focuses on assisting in maintaining a safe, welcoming, and secure environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors across all Academy-owned and operated properties. The intern will help identify and respond to community needs, provide a visible and approachable presence on campus, and serve as a point of contact for visitors during the school day, events, and athletic competitions.
The intern will assist with documenting incidents, supporting routine safety operations, and coordinating with law enforcement or emergency services as needed. The position also emphasizes relationship-building across the campus community to foster trust, familiarity, and a strong sense of belonging.
Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to read, interpret, and respond to written reports in English.
NOTE: There is potential for part-time/per-diem work during the academic year.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Core Duties:
Assist with foot and mobile security patrols of campus property under the supervision of a Campus Safety Officer, developing familiarity with patrol sectors, buildings, faculty housing, and campus boundaries.
Support response to routine calls for service (e.g., lockouts, escorts, noise concerns), ensuring interactions are courteous and professional.
Assist in monitoring compliance with school parking regulations and help direct traffic during high-volume periods such as student drop-off and pick-up.
Observe and support monitoring of door access systems and campus cameras.
Provide support for campus events, including athletic competitions, performances, and other gatherings.
Assist in documenting incidents by gathering information and supporting report preparation as directed.
Observe and learn appropriate responses to medical emergencies; assist within scope of training and under supervision.
Support communication with emergency responders (police, fire, EMS) as directed by professional staff.
Participate in training and drills related to emergency response and campus safety procedures.
Observe and report potential safety, security, or fire hazards to supervising staff.
Maintain a visible, approachable presence in campus spaces and support a respectful environment for students.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist in submitting maintenance requests related to safety or facility concerns identified during patrols.
Support response to maintenance-related calls and help coordinate communication with facilities staff when appropriate.
Assist with periodic checks of emergency call boxes and lighting systems to ensure proper operation.
Complete additional tasks and special projects as assigned by the shift supervisor or director.

Education/Certification/Licensure
Required:
High School degree, GED, or equivalent educational / work experience which demonstrates mastery of:
English language oral and written communication skills
Reading and comprehending documents and information
Basic math skills
Valid driver’s license and ability to pass an insurance and driver’s record check
Preferred:
Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program or recently completed a degree program.

To be exposed to the following (not limited to) environmental conditions: fumes, dirt, hazards (blood, etc.), heat/cold, toxins, and noise.
To operate / use / learn to use the following types of equipment: hand-tools, radio, vehicles, television and miscellaneous security monitors, chemicals (towelettes), VCR/DVD, telephone, desktop computer, laptop computer, printer, keys, CPR mask, AED, gloves, flashlight, first aid kits, jumper cables, lockout tool. Motor vehicles and golf carts abilities are preferred.

Pass Post Offer Pre-Employment (POPE) physical examination
Pass background checks: CORI, SORI and fingerprint.
