Hours: Part-time with the flexibility to work nights and weekends

Classification: Faculty (Academic Year)
Milton Academy is an independent college preparatory K–12 school, boarding and day in grades 9–12, located just outside of Boston.
Milton Academy cultivates in our students a passion for learning and a respect for others. Milton students grow by developing their own identities, learning from and listening to the lived experiences of others, and living and working among peers whose differences they accept with respect and care.
In our ongoing work to create an environment that confronts bias, injustice, and bigotry, we encourage each other to be open to learning, explore our histories and identities, and seek to understand the world around us with a critical lens. At Milton, we prepare students to partner with their future communities to create a more just world, and to have the courage to speak up and live by our motto, “Dare to be true.”
Summary of Position:
Milton Academy seeks Teaching Fellows to participate in the Independent School Teaching Residency master's program in partnership with the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. This program enables aspiring and early-career teachers to complete a rewarding and hands-on two-year teaching fellowship at Milton Academy while receiving a master’s degree in education. To support our boarding student population, campus housing will be provided for fellows.
The Penn Fellows will teach a reduced load (two sections in year one, three sections in year two) while they complete their graduate coursework, and will engage with Milton’s residential life community and co-curricular and/or athletics programs. They will be mentored by an experienced member of the faculty in their department and will have a cohort of Penn Fellows in their first and second years with whom they will share and strategize about their successes and challenges.
With an innovative and comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for independent schools’ unique settings, the program features intensive on-site sessions in combination with collaborative online learning.
Interested candidates must apply online. Accepted candidates will be required to complete an online application to the UPenn Graduate School of Education no later than May 1.
